Sheet Type RS-DD
RS-DD brings
new dimensions to the artist/craftsperson working in
the molding and fusing of glass. Lightweight and easy
to handle, this versatile product can be used for the
making of molds, kiln shelves and furniture, high and
low relief designs, rings, squares and columns. Easily
cut with knife or scissors and moistened with water,
this durable, flexible alumina sheet adds new
creativity to hot glass work.
RS-DD is a
high alumina product composed of high purity alumina
reinforced with high-alumina ceramic fibers made up in
thin sheet forms. It has excellent strength and can be
fired repeatedly to 1800°F with no shrinkage. It is
completely safe to handle and use. It contains no
asbestos or hazardous materials.
RS-DD is
supplied in dry form. It can be used directly in flat
form as shelves or supports for fusing, or can be
molded by quickly wetting with water, shaping to any
desired form and re-drying. Joints can be made by
pressing the two wet surfaces together; greater
thicknesses can be made by laminating two or more
sheets together; the moist surface can be indented or
carved with a tool to create patterns and textures.
Usage of the finished dried piece can be immediate as
this alumina product requires no pre-firing, kiln wash
or separator. A small amount of organic present will
cause some smoke on initial heat-up.
